Subject: TM36. ice box drain

We are getting our TM36 ready to launch after one hell of a cold winter. A question re-appears from last summer. Where does the ice box drain into? I cannot follow the hose. It seems to disappear somewhere beneath the sole. Our layout is NOT at all similar to the TM36 layout on this web site. Our galley is to stbrd. The icebox is imediately after the nav station which is imediately after the stbrd qtr birth. So far, it has not been a problem. We are just trying to prevent future problems. Any help will be appreciated.

Best wishes, gs

Hi Gene,
I would makeup about a gallon of water with maybe green food coloring and pour it in and check the bilge as that is probably where it is going. If not it may be going into a junction with the cockpit drain and overboard.

Gene!
Nice to 'hear' from you. I have tried the 'trace the flow trick'. No luck! I will try again if I can't find someone who knows for sure. How is your Mariner project progressing? Well, I hope. Thanks again for your hospitality last January. I really really miss southern food!

Best wishes to you and the Mrs.

Gene,
It drains into the bilge. Can't remember how, offhand, but I recall seeing the hose (I believe with a mirror and in a very contorted position) and it simply ends, I believe, draining into the bilge between the fuel tank and water tank.

Greetings. On my TM36, Kialua, the icebox drains into the sump; the pan beneath the fuel tank, water tank and holding tank beneath the sole. The shower drain also goes into the sump. Both are a lousy design because you get soap and food, etc, in the sump and it can smell. I have a sump pump separate from the bilge pump to empty this. If I could get to the icebox drain I would divert it through a small manual (tiptoe) pump into the galley sink so it could be pumped overboard.

I don't know if we have such a sump. It would probably explain my inability to trace the flow as per GeneMSs suggestion! We have a shower sump below the sole just ahead of the mast. It is evacuated overbord, by a seperate pump. I anticipate removing the shower sump this summer. It is metal and beginning to corrode. I will put something different in its place and hopefully make room for an additional fifteen gallons of fuel there too. It would be super to find the terminus of the ice box drain when I remove the shower sump. HA! Boats are great.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate your input.
