Subject: A non-working on boat sailing post.

My wife and I along with my 14 y/o son just got back from a weekend of sailing. We went to a group of islands about 30 miles offshore of Okinawa. They are pristine, with live coral and water visibility of 130 feet.

The islands are volcanic in nature and covered with lush greenery. A series of currents and flukey winds abound in the place and can be a bit of a challenge.

After a meal of BBQ steaks, corn and potatoes-along with some excellent seafood stew we traded from a boat nearby, we had an excellent night's rest with the cool ocean breezes wafting through the hatches.

The next morning after another large meal, we made our way back to Okinawa. Since I used the mizzen boom as a support for a sunshade, we sailed under main and genoa. We were able to make between 5 and 6 knots for most of the five-hour trip. What I found interesting, is that some of the other lighter, newer boats that left about when we did could not distance us.

It's warm here, and with all of the resoration posts I thought I would post one about sailing. I spent nearly two years in my restoration, and even so, I am not finished. I will never be finished, but Cherub sure looked good sitting next to those clorox bottles. She drew many "oh's and awe's" from the Japanese sailors.

As an interesting aside, our sister Fuji 32 was also there, painted in nearly the same green, sans wooden spars. It's owner who I have a bit of a communication issue with can not understand why the hulls are so identical, yet the top sides so different....and yes, I have already raced him. :)
