Subject: Manual bilge pump

My M32 has a brass piston type manual bilge pump. Was this standard on the Mariners? Do they work well? GPM? I'm wondering whether to replace it with one of those Guzzler diaphram pumps. The one thing I don't like is that I need to have the starboard lazzerette open to use it where a diaphram pump could used through a hole in the side of the cockpit well.

Hello John,
My Mariner 31 also came equipped with the piston type bilge pump you describe.Throw it away-it's junk, and implement your replacement ideas exactly as you state them.
You are right on the money.Good Luck.

Mine too. Couldn't get it to work and couldn't get it apart to fix it. Haven't thrown it away (a lovely antique, you know), but have installed the guzzler like you are thinking.
