Subject: Spinnaker for Mariner 31

Has anyone had experience with putting a spinnaker on the Mariner 31. Some sailing buddies have me convinced that it would be a good thing for the Ensenada race next spring and in general. I'm anticipating an asymetrical (spelling?) sail for ease of operation when on a reduced crew. One guy said it wouldn't be a good idea because I have a wooden Main Mast????

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Sea Rover is moored at Alamitos Bay Californis outside the ABYC if anyone is local and wants to see a 90% finished 31 let me know.

A "symetrical" spinnaker was part of Murre's original, 1972, sail compliment, so the builder must not have feared the wooden masts too much.

I've only flown it a couple times, so can't tell you too much about it, except that it is by no means beyond the pale of your Mariner, and that each time I've had it up (singlehanded), it wants to tow me toward the closest exiting tanker like it is a team of wild huskies and Murre is a sled.

I don't know what the dimensions are, but California Dreamer (M31) on the MOA site has some photos w/her spinnaker up. It does look a little smaller than modern spinnaker's for same size boat.
