Lachlan,
I guess anything could be possible.
I just checked the engine log and aircraft log reports in the complete CAB report. The plane had a complete engine major and 100 hour inspection just a month prior, on January 3, 1959. It was deemed airworthy at that time.
Way back when, we even checked out something we had been told, and that was that the cables for the rudder etc. ran unexposed through the baggage compartment. I was told that if the baggae had shifted in a certain manner, it could have lodged against those cables causing failure of rudder control.
As I said, just about any reasonable explanation could have been the cause of the crash. My problem with most theories is that the plane crashed so soon after takeoff. I do believe it was an external problem - weather, and more specific, icing, not motor, not equipment failure, not pilot. (Just my opinion, remember.)
Yes, Jerry Dwyer has the wreckage. The CAB report states it was sold for scrap but it doesn't mention that Mr. Dwyer bought the scrap. I will not divulge where he has it.
I guess it's time for a small commercial here. I have an Adobe Acrobat disc produced titled "February 3, 1959". It contains over 220 pages and complete details can be found at my website by clicking on my online Sales List Flipbook. Go to the Adobe discs chapter.
Aside from various newspaper articles, my February 3, 1959 Rockin' 50s article, the Coroner's reports and death certificates, the Roger Peterson files, and so on, it also has the complete CAB report, page by page. The 8-page synopsis is also there but this is the whole thing.
I produced this disc because I was simply getting tired of making photocopies over and over. Now, everything is in one place.
The disc is $19.00 plus shipping, totals as follows: US $22.00, Canada $22.50, Europe $26.00, Asia/Australia $26.00. Paypal is fine at bill.griggs@suddenlink.net, as well as checks (U.S. only), money orders, and cash.
Thanks.
