I'm gonna have to get one of these. It keeps slipping my mind.
My opinion about what happened, is that it was a combination of the weather outside, with the windows being iced over, like having a sheet wrapped around the plane, causing Peterson to lose it. (Like he had under similar duress during instruments training, when it was said that he "Let the plane get away from him") The way the plane hit, with wing first was similar to the way he lost control during his instrument training.
Also, I think that the payload of the plane may have been too much. I know it wasn't officially, in the CAB report, but they had the heaviest passenger (The Bopper) sitting in the front, when it is clear that it was Buddy Holly.
This, along with their heavy winter coats (Not taken into consideration, alters statistics, and I think may have played a significant part in the tragedy. Maybe the payload was just too damn heavy, or at least how it was loaded was, onto such a tight, cramped, cockpit.
That's my theory, anyway.
