My first car was a '54 Ford I bought well used in 1963. Don't remember it even having a model name. However, it did have cardboard quarter panels painted to match the rest of the car. If one lifted the floor mats, you could clearly see the floor had rusted out. (I didn't know about that, either, until the day a buddy of mine put his foot thru while keeping time to whatever was playing on the AM only radio.) Almost lost that same friend while making a left turn one day when the passenger side door flew open; no seat belts on cars here in '54, remember. Guess the car dealer knew a pigeon when he saw one. For all of that, it was a great first car; built like a tank. Bounced off of boulders and buildings and never got a scratch. Would that car be my '50's dream car? Sorry, no. I did think the '58 Chevy Impala was superb. I'd have taken a factory new one in a second. (Almost bought one used in '65 but my cousin, a mechanic, advised against it. He said the one I saw had already been run into the ground. He was right.) Or, a '57 or'58 Ford Fairlane convertible or 2-door hardtop. Great looks AND pretty decent fins.
