I too recently finished the book. It starts off on the slow side but picks up when she sees the Crickets in Sacramento and hears "Peggy Sue" for the very first time. From there it's a fast, fun read. The chapter on the double honeymoon in Acapulco is a gossipy, memorable romp through their four lives. The incident in the elevator with Buddy in NYC was THE moment in the book for me. Also, her intimating that ME might not have been pregnant after all was an eye-opener. Speaking of ME, from her entrance to her exit she's portrayed as one of the most detestable, unlikeable women you'd ever want to meet. Knowing full well there's two sides to every story, I'd love to one day hear another side. Can she really be this coniving, this awful? And finally, Jerry Allison may not give a rat's ass about what Peggy Sue writes about him and their marriage and one might very well knock it off to his juvenile immaturity, but there's no denying that according to Peggy Sue, being married to Jerry Allison was fraught with one emotional setback after another. Then it turned physical. Pity.
If Buddy were still alive and the 4 principal characters in the book all wrote their own take on those exact years and events, you'd get 4 entirely different stories. As it is we can only get 3 different stories. Yet somehow I feel this is probably the only one we'll ever get.
