Some really good comments and responses there, thanks.
Well, Buddy's good friend, the late great Mr Waylon Jennings was himself married a few times. I know he had problems with the booze and drugs, and whilst Buddy's condition (the ulcer) may have stopped him from going in that direction, had he not died, it is possible that Waylon's life may not have gone in the direction it did, with drugs, etc.
I get the impression Buddy may have ended up a very, very wealthy guy, in much the same way his friend Bob Montgomery did, with great publishing success.
I'll be honest, I loved Buddy before the book, and after it I love him even more. We all know that he was absolutely 'beaten up' by his split with Echo, and who could blame him? (She was so cute)
Then Jerry got married and Buddy was obviously in a rush. Yes,maria elena WAS a very pretty girl, but had a totally different way to her than the 'hi yall' innocence of West Texan girls.
