The question seems to be of a definition. For my part, I would consider anything that was added to or "sweetened" posthumously should be considered as "overdubbed".

Yes a lot of songs were added to during Buddy's life, but that was largely done due to the lack of multi track gear,
and that NP wanted a fuller backing vocal sound.

He usually did this "dubbing" while the crickets were on tour.

Famously, Buddy also oversaw "dubbing" or doubling of his
own voice and second guitar on several sessions.

Regarding the Picks:

Oy! I know I have gone over this terrain many times, but the ONLY thing they should be given proper recognition
for are the 9 songs on the original Chirping crickets album.

That's it! All the bad feelings and stink they have caused since the 1980's is based on their contribution to 9 songs.

Of course, they felt they had been robbed of fair recognition and $ for those efforts, so they went ahead
and abused and defaced another 30 or so cuts in at least 2 separate sessions in the 1980's.

never mind that many agree the original 9 cuts were not all that stupendous (including Buddy, who obviously preferred the Roses), those wholly unauthorized overdubs of brilliant classics like Peggy Sue amount to pop culture vandalism.

The tracks I have always most enjoyed hearing in their original undubbed form are the Bobby Peeples sessions, The Kdav Buddy and Bob recordings, The clovis demo's made for decca, OF COURSE
the apartment tapes, and, even though I respect that it is an alteration of history, those 9 cuts from the Chirping crickets album, sans picks, are also great and are one generation of tape clearer and fresher sounding.

I'm not sure if those sources add up to 40.
