"...Chubby Checker's Clovis connection?"
Well, of course there is none but I can see how they might want to book a name act from the period covered, particularly one so successful in the early 60s.
Then again you could take the "six degrees of seperation" idea. One of Buddy Holly's favorite recording stars was Fats Domino, as evidenced by his versions of "Valley Of Tears", "Blue Monday", etc. and we all know where Chubby Checker got his stage name from.
As for the other stars of the Clovis scene: Roy Orbison, Buddy Knox, The Fireballs, The Velvets, and The String-A-Longs, there's probably a better than even chance Chubby Checker performed on the same bills in the early 60s with one or more of them.
