The music had to be modified or it would have ossified. Music is a living entity that grows, expands, and evolves. Like you, there are mutations that don't suit me. I scratch my head at some of the stuff my 20 year old daughter listens to. But I keep in mind that such changes must occur for the music to retain its life and vitality. Otherwise it's Ground Hog Day at the sock hop. Not such a bad thing in some ways, but we might miss out on some good stuff, too. :-)
I think it's perfectly OK to prefer the music of the 1950s to the 1960s. In decades past, I've seen The Everly Brothers twice, Roy Orbison, Little Richard, and The Crickets. These are some of the best shows I've seen. I've also seen The Kinks, McCartney, and Brian Wilson. I like them all tremendously and they all bring something different to the table. The common thread? All of those artists, like each of us here, love Buddy Holly. Cheers.
