This is interesting, because whilst he was at Lubbock High School, he was a keen member of several societies (I forget exactly which ones) but I know one was to do with the chamber of commerce, and I think he was also a writer for the school magazine/newsletter.
If he were alive today, I feel he would be at the top of the music profession, but also a keen writer on musical topics for newspapers and magazines. A musical critic? No. Simply because his attitude always seemed to be progressive and positive. He mixed amiably with both rockers and big band leaders, and I cannot see him being critical of people, because he understood the desire for constant change and development. He even said once that if rock and roll died out, he would "hop on the trend".
It was all positive minded from Buddy. That's what adds to the sense of a great loss. So many people could have benefitted from his welcoming approach and passion for music.
