Buddy was a big Gospel fan so I guess it isn't surprising he took inspiration from "I'll Be Alright" as performed by the Angelic Gospel Singers. It's a beautiful song.

Paul Simon continued Buddy's tradition of borrowing when he wrote "Bridge Over Troubled Water" which is a mashup of Oscar Peterson's "Hymn To Freedom" and the Swan Silvertones' "Oh Mary Don't You Weep"

I've always liked "True Love Ways" - Buddy's vocal, the orchestral arrangement & Richman's sax, but in my opinion the lyrics are the weakest link. "Throughout the days, Our true love ways, Will bring us joys to share, With those who really care, Sometimes we'll sigh, Sometimes we'll cry" etc.

Others here may disagree, but I think Holly was a better lyricist than Petty.
