 As previously stated The Shadows were HUGE and THE group to emulate in the UK between 1959 and 1962/3, prior to The Beatles.
There was nobody to touch them.
They influenced just about every UK group during that period.

The Ventures only had a couple of UK hits and by comparision to The Shadows their sound was rather weedy / lame / quiet ..
