Regarding the acetate of Buddy singing "I Forgot to Remember to Forget," which was of course a Sun record by Elvis when Buddy recorded his version of the song in 1956, and he requested it be destroyed so that it wouldn't be released and cause legal problems. Fast-forward to today, it is one of a very few known Buddy Holly recordings that has not, and probably will never be released or even heard.

The acetate has probably never even played on a turntable because it is reported to have a deep scratch in it, possibly made with a nail, to render it unplayable.

Good news - it is possible to listen to the music on the acetate, and those like it, without actually playing it on a turntable! Modern computer scanning technology can, and has, gone in and scanned the grooves on an unplayable record, processed the data, and produced a near-pristine audio capture of the record. I could post some links to such projects, but links stink here, and anyone here who is interested is well able to look up such things on their own.

Now, where's that acetate? ;-D
