Q, bear in mind that those of us around at the time (certainly in the UK) never dreamt there would be any more Holly releases so when Peggy Sue Got Married/Crying Waiting Hoping came out in 1959 this was wonderful. I think this is one reason why my generation tends to like the Hansen overdubs and this is one reason why I still love the BH Story vol. 2 as an album (even though I can't play it anymore).
The only reliable information around at the time was from the newsletters of John Beecher's BH Appreciation Society - it was through these that I gradually discovered the facts about the overdubbing.
A while ago I contacted BGO Records to suggest they issue Story Vols 1 & 2 to complete their series of BH double CDs with original art work and track sequencing - this would make all 10 "original" albums available in this form. They replied to say it was on their agenda but there were problems (unpecified).
