Good point. Judging the future by the past may be conservative, but you miss a lot. Billboard wasn't alone in missing the mark on this group with no track record. As Jay Warner noted in his Da Capo Book of American Singing Groups, the Skyliners' demo of Since I Don't Have You was rejected by RCA, ABC, Imperial, Chess and all the rest of the 13 labels they sent it to.
Some of the comments:
1. The song was too negative-should have been titled Since I Have You.
2. "A song with 13 'you's at the end will never sell." Janet Vogel thought the tape had been turned off and kept riffing at the end.
