Sadly the DC5 were not (still are not) held in very high esteem in the UK. Mainly due to DC himself seeming to have very little musical ability and not playing on their records. However he was / still is a good businessman.
DC famously said to one sessionn drummer to play it very simple as he would have to mime to it later on TV !!
Mike Smith was one of the great singers and performers though but I'm not sure we ever got to see him in the UK once the group broke up, he never had any sort of solo career (or did he and I missed it ?) and the DC5 never seemed to be re-appraised as many other 60s groups did.
