>>It's Ringo's timing that I take issue with. Simply put, he didn't have it.<<
My *ss. You obviously do not play drums. Ringo's time was impeccable...probably one most solid drummers in rock. The fills you are referring to on the end of Strawberry Fields Forever were played by more people in the studio than just Ringo. Most Beatles tracks are not one solid take, not even in the early days. Released tracks were made up of multiple takes spliced togeher. (A noticeable splice fidelity-wise is right before the line "Pride can hurt you too" in She Loves You). BTW, what is the source of the John Lennon quote in regards to Ringo's awful playing?
I don't see the merit in an argument over who the best drummer is, as if musicians are to be ranked like your favorite baseball players or some silly nonsense thereof. Ringo was good, Jerry Allison was good, as well as Earl Palmer, Dickie Harrell of the Blue Caps, Joe Morello...the list is endless.
Thank God for great music!
