 I would say that DC5's "Bits and Pieces" would be Rock n Roll. In 1964 many ballrooms banned the song for fear that the teenagers would damage the wooden floors due to the song's heavy stomping beat.
I watched the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony on Monday Night and after Tom Hanks inducted the band (Hank's induction speech was great) Joan Jett did a rousing treatment of the song "Bits and Pieces"
