 Des O'Connor, the comperè and comedian from Buddy Holly and The Crickets 1958 UK tour, has passed away aged 88.

Mr O'Connor passed away peacefully in his sleep, Saturday 14th November, with his family by his side. He leaves a wife, a son, and 4 daughters.

He would fondly recall sharing a room with Buddy on the tour, and in an attempt to get Buddy to get up in a morning, he would pull at Buddy's leg and foot, who would then say, as he was half asleep still "Don't do that, Des. I'm tall enough!" Buddy also gave Des an acoustic guitar that he had purchased to mess around with on the tour bus and train. I believe Des still owned this. I think Buddy and Des got on well.

Des O'Connor went on to have an extremely successful stage and TV career in the UK. As a singer, he was perhaps a little limited, and laughed at by many, but he had a presenting charm that endeered him to many also. He was on TV until not that long ago, certainly into his 70s.

Another link with Buddy gone. May he rest in peace.
