Sheriff Jerry Allen discovered the glasses(along with Big Bopper's watch, four dice, a cigarette lighter, a watchband, and the back of another watch in an envelope,in a file, at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse in February of 1980. The items were photographed and the glasses were sent to the Holley family.
Now what 99.9% of all Buddy Holly fans do not know is that upon the discovery of these items, Sheriff Allen used an ultraviolet pen (used commonly by law enforcement)to mark his initials on the side of the frames. He did this for potential authenication purposes needed later. Sheriff Allen told very few people, one of them being his sister, one being a Mr. Shaeffer, and another being Buddy Holly plane crash expert Kevin Terry.
If you were to place the glasses that are now at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock under an ultraviolet light, you would see Sheriff Allen's initials on the right side of the frames. Research is your friend.
