Well, I hope all of you that received the book enjoyed it. It's a good story. Some of the parts did seem a bit fantastic to me.
Being a member of the Holley family, I do recall stories passed down through the years. One thing that both my Uncles, Larry and Travis agree on is the way the song, Peggy Sue got its name. They both say that they got it straight from Buddy how the song got it's title. Even Mom used to talk about it. I've heard the same story for years and it has never changed. So, I was a little surprised at Peggy's take on it.
IMO the book does seem to be a little one-sided, but I guess that is how a book is written when it is from the author's point of view. Peggy comes off as an innocent victim through most of the book. But it is about her and her memoirs. I guess that is how she felt. Also, if there were strong feelings between her and Buddy, well he took it to the grave and Peggy kept that secret for a pretty long time. I find it a little strange that Buddy never spoke of his feelings toward Peggy to either of his Brothers or my Grandmother. He told her (Grandmother) everything. He sought her advise more than most people know. He even sought her advice on lyrics to his songs.
Peggy took on the challenge of writing how she felt and how things happened through her eyes. I admire her for the courage to write it in knowing that MED would come after her, guns a blazin'.
Most of you know I am not a big MED fan. As far as Peggy is concerned, she has been much more cordial to my Mom and myself through the years.
What peaks my curiosity is the fact that there is such controversy over the truth of this book. I guess only God and the people that were actually there, know the truth.
Happy Trails, Ing
