Hi Randy. At the BHMS convention in Sept. 1980, there was a particularly star studded show. Most other years i attended, there were perhaps no more than two "a" list performers, but in 1980 there was Roy Orbison, Bo Diddly and Waylon Jennings with the Crickets. I have to confess to not knowing much about Waylon then, and even after that show it was a year or two more before I became the huge fan I am today. I recall Waylon being rather subdued and almost shy at that time, with long hair and a beard. The more I think about it, he may have only been performing as a guest of the Crickets. Others here may have a clearer recollection. I was fortunate to see Waylon once more, just a few short years before his passing. A rather modest size room in Seattle, aprox capacity 400. Waylon was beyond great, but the show was rather brief at around 45 minutes. We were told he had a plane to catch which didn't seem fair to me after a 3 hour drive to the show. Still, I'm very happy I saw the man in a smaller venue with excellent sound. I wish i could see him again!
