Let's not forget that 45's replacing 78's along with transistor radios, from Japan, played a major roll in bringing Elvis & Buddy to the forefront...getting them on national TV. According to Wikepedia the first pocket-size radios costs $49.95 (equivilent to $360.00 today). Sony's first import to the U.S. was a pocket size unit in 1957. Some estimates suggest there are 7 billion still in existence today. Correct me if I'm wrong but can only recall AM (no FM) on these pocket-size radios in the 50's. During his senior year, Lubbock High Class of 1955, Rockabilly music was beginning to fill the airways all across West Texas. Concerning Ed Sullivan...I doubt if he had time to play childish mind games as he was a pro.
