Transistor radios might have brought Elvis to the forefront in Japan if they could have heard him there, but in America, Elvis's popularity was well established long before transistor sales took off. Elvis became a superstar in 1956. A few transistors were sold in 1957, but sales didn't take off in great number until 1959 and in the 1960a when the price dropped.
