HK is fully aware of the Beatles unsurpassed musicianship, songwriting, vocals, harmonies and influence ... For someone who won't listen to music produced after 1963, what is he doing watching the 2008 Grammy Awards?

John, I am indeed aware of the attributes you mention. In fact, the steering wheel from my 1958 Ariel Cylone goes to anyone who can find one of my posts in which I question them. What I have problems with is the notion that they were "unsurpassed", or indeed particularly special. That is what, in my view, makes them the most over-rated band in musical history and a gigantic bore to boot. I also reject the notion that they were a rock n roll band. Good, great, unsurpassed or otherwise, they were a pop band or, if you must, a "British Beat" band. There's a BIG difference.
As for the the Grammys. I didn't watch them (although I wanted to for JLL and Little Richard). I got the quote from a Washington Post review. (The reviewer also found it odd).
PS: What have you got against Terry Jacks? Don't knock it till you've tried it, sweetie.
