The best example of this is the all time great, Willie Mays, the "Say Hey Kid", who made the most famous catch in baseball history while playing center field for the New York Giants off of Vic Wertz of the Cleveland Indians in the 1954 World Series.
Fast forward 2 decades later to the 1973 World Series when Willie Mays, now playing back in New York for The Mets this time vs. the Oakland A's, was fumbling and stumbling around in the outfield. Painful to watch for those of us with memories of his glory days, it was a stark example of this.
