I remember when "Ruby Duby Du" by Tobin Mathews was on the charts here in L.A. late in 1960. The flip came from a movie and seemed to reflect the times: "Leatherjacket Cowboy"
There is one lyric from around that time in one of my childhood favorites, "Talk Of The School" by Sonny James, where he was backed up by a vocal group from Renton, WA called The Eligibles.
Sonny James sings the second verse:
You said you couldn't go with me to the Senior dance;
Then later on you showed up with your brand new romance;
How could you treat me so cruel?
oh, it's the talk of the school, talk of the school
Then The Eligibles sing the bridge:
A lotta talking
A lotta ?????? (loudness? wildness?)
They're talking, everybody's talking.
With the lyrics now printed online they couldn't figure out that line either and had it like I did, with question marks.
This tune brings back some very pleasant memories, oddly enough, from my stay in Childrens' Hospital early in 1959.
I had my radio tuned to the KFWB Fabulous Forty Survey unveiling and "Talk Of The School" was playing. My short-term roommate told me from across the room he liked it and requested I turn it up. I did and told him I liked it greatly also.
