Both BMI and ASCAP allow for pseudonyms in song registration, but not for hiding ones identity from their legal obligations--just for personal and creative reasons. ALL US registrations go back to a writers SSN. Back in '57 with Holly using 'Hardin', it was easier to hide. Sam Cooke got around contracts by listing his brother and spouse as writers.
