Yes, I was there as well and you are right - there was no local radio in those days.

However, as John Beecher has pointed out, there were regional variations to national radio stations. The Midlands was a region and BBC Home Service and Light Programme would have broadcast regional programmes. You will not find these variations listed on the Genome website.

Think of it like regional TV news these days - after the 6 o'clock news, the network splits and the regions get their own news before reverting back to national programming.

The BBC has an archives department and they might be able to help.
