With today's technology, old recordings can be enhanced or cleaned up so they sound like new.

To cite an example: When CBS/Paramount converted the original series of Star Trek to Blu-ray. The music was re-recorded using the original scoring, (the special effects were redone, too), but William Shatner's original famous introduction was used.

As long as the original master tape recordings of Roy's songs are used, the sound shouldn't suffer. Even shellacs can be improved, removeing most imperfections.
