I just have a few tidbits to add about Gram Parsons, who, as has been mentioned, is NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For that and so many reasons, the Hall of Fame is a flawed entity, so thanks for changing the subject!

I didn't read back to see if these highlights had been mentioned, so here goes:

Gram was a pivotal figure in music during his lifetime, no doubt about it, and he changed the trajectory of several bands and musicians that he worked with. See The Byrds, The Rolling Stones ("Wild Horses"), and Emmylou Harris. He basically jump-started Emmylou's career; she still plays some of his songs today.

Gram was a Buddy Holly fan. I remember listening to a bootleg where he played a song and spoke of "the Buddy Holly sound" to describe what he was playing.

Gram's band for his last 2 studio albums included the great James Burton on guitar.

Gram's death was almost as interesting as his life. His casket was stolen by his drunken manager, taken to Joshua Tree National Park in California, and his corpse was set on fire to honor his desire to be cremated. This is documented in the funny and irreverent movie Grand Theft Parsons starring Johnny Knoxville.

Gram Parsons, along with countless other great musicians, wouldn't care one whit about whether or not he was in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's all about the music, which continues to inspire.
