I have no idea if the conversation actually took place.
I will say that the term "blown" in this sense would not have meant that no sound was emanating from that speaker, only that there my have been a small tear in the cone itself, resulting in a fuzzier, slightly distorted sound that several early rock guitar heroes became enamored with.
One extreme example is "train kept a Rollin' by the rock and roll trio.
I agree that Buddy never (to my ears) allowed his sound to get anywhere near that level of fuzz, but he may well have dabbled.
It could have been someone else altogether that spoke to Mr. Robertson on the subject, but it's cool that he has a fond memory of Buddy being friendly and willing to share.
