It is with great sadness that I share with you that Virginia Hebel Perl has passed away last night in an auto accident. She was 75. Virginia was driving to see her kids for Christmas.

In the 1950's and 1960's Virginia Hebel Perl was known as a supermodel (before the term was invented) and met everyone---Charlton Heston, Sammy Davis Jr., Sal Mineo, and a ton of rock-n-roll stars. She was also known for a specific photo taken with her, Buddy Holly, Maria Elena Holly, and Phil Everly at El Chico restaurant in New York in 1958. She and Phil Everly dated for a while.

Maria Elena once referred to her as "that girl in the photo" and she had planned to make use of that reference as she had recently completed her autobiography, fittingly called, "That Girl In The Photo" and she was in the process of shopping for a publisher.

Virginia had become quite active on Facebook and the Buddy Holly communities found there. She had been planning to attend the 2017 Winter Dance Party in Clear Lake, Iowa in February.

Full of stories, kindness, and grace, Virginia Hebel Perl will be sorely missed. I will miss our conversations about Buddy, rock-n-roll, and our families.

May she rest in peace.
