It happens/happened because nobody thought people would be interested in any of that type of stuff nearly sixty years later...
It's not like people were thinking "We have to film this" or "We have to record this"... Most all of the time back then, concerts were just concerts, played and then the performer was on to the next venue: People weren't thinking they'd need to document things if for no other reason than for posterity... Plus, while rock 'n roll was on downward turn in popularity in '59, it still had a stigma attached to it so people weren't all too worried about preserving it for future generations...
