After the Winter Dance Party TWO SETS of Crickets assembled in New York
i.e. the legal Crickets consisting of JI, Joe B, Sonny and Earl Sinks and the WDP Crickets of Waylon, Tommy, etc
GAC wanted Tommy in The Crickets as he was on the WDP so that is how and why the photos (with Tommy in but excluding Sonny) were taken.
I believe there are three slightly different ones. These photos were used in advertising various singles and of course on that EP cover.
Then Norman got involved and told the record company and GAC exactly who the legal Crickets were so that 'photo line up' never existed, only in the photos. They never recorded or toured
Waylon, Sonny and the others headed back to Lubbock.
The 'legal Crickets' (as above) started recording again on 18th May 1959 at Bell Sound Studios in New York where they cut I Fought The Law and A Sweet Love, produced by Jack Hanson - without Petty who they had split with by then.
