True that few people "rocked" the 1950's and 1960's more than Frank Sinatra, in terms of their "coolness" factor. Another that comes to mind is Steve Allen, considered the epitome of "cool" at that time (and the alleged reason Buddy decided to switch to the same-style frames Steve wore).

But let us not forget Frank's famous rant against rock 'n' roll:

“[Rock 'n' roll] fosters almost totally negative and destructive reactions in young people. It smells phony and false. It is sung, played and written for the most part by cretinous goons and by means of its almost imbecilic reiterations and sly, lewd—in plain fact dirty—lyrics, and as I said before, it manages to be the martial music of every sideburned delinquent on the face of the earth.

“This rancid smelling aphrodisiac I deplore. But, in spite of it, the contribution of American music to the world could be said to have one of the healthiest effects of all our contributions.”

It may be added that although Sinatra and Bing Crosby are artistically immortal, their particular style of crooning is all but extinct [the last survivor probably being Tony Bennett], whereas rock 'n' roll is here to stay, it will never die.
