I get what you're saying, but The Platters are not the only act/artist who may have helped bridge the "rock and roll generation gap" between parents and kids by recording an "oldie" for the newly emerging teen market: For example, Little Richard recorded "Baby Face" and "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" and Gene Vincent recorded "Over the Rainbow" and Elvis was recording stuff like "Blue Moon" and "Just Because"...

Let's not forget the greatest example- Fats Domino recording Gene Autry's "Blueberry Hill".
