I am no expert, David, but wouldn't the extra equipment weight be offset by the lack of fuel.
I would also have thought that one of the pilots pre take off checks would include checking the fuel gauge

As I said, I am no expert , but feel free to pull this to pieces . Your thoughts were very interesting
