In 1964, long before foldback speakers(monitors), Ringo consistently held the group together in front of thousands upon thousands of screaming fans. Nowadays, most drummers (even ones playing around in the 50s & 60s) can't make a go of it without monitors even in a small club!

Now was Ringo a flashy drummer? Not in the least, much like Buddy Holly's guitar playing, Ringo played what needed to be played, nothing more...and any band worth it's weight in gold will tell you they prefer solid timing to drumming with flair.
