Lubbock, Texas – In 2004, the Buddy Holly Center started an ongoing project entitled Postcards to Buddy. In remembrance of Buddy Holly and his music, fans from around the world created and mailed in original postcards honoring the Rock ‘n’ Roll legend. The Buddy Holly Center is expanding upon the success of this original concept and is putting out the call for postcards to be contributed for a new exhibit to be featured in the museum’s Texas Musicians Hall of Fame from August 12, 2008 through March 22, 2009. Postcards to Buddy will be on exhibit as we celebrate Buddy Holly’s 72nd birthday on September 7, 2008 and as we remember Buddy on February 3, 2009, the 50th anniversary of his death.
Buddy Holly fans are asked to create and mail in original handmade standard size (4 x 6 inch, 10.16 x 15.24 cm.) postcards expressing their appreciation and love of Buddy and his music. Included with the exhibit will be a world map displaying where the postcards have come from and how far Buddy’s legacy has spread.
The submission deadline is July 18 for postcards to be included in the exhibit, however the Buddy Holly Center will continue to accept postcard submissions throughout the year. Participants can mail their postcards to: Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Avenue, Lubbock, Texas 79401. All postcards submitted will become the property of the Buddy Holly Center.
Programming at the Buddy Holly Center is made possible in part by the generous support of Supporters of the Fine Arts (SOFA), CH Foundation, Helen Jones Foundation and the City of Lubbock. For more information about this exhibit or other events, please contact the staff at the Buddy Holly Center at 806.775.3560
