Subject: Buddy Holly and The Beatles were not the first

Something that I have noticed over the years and repeated endlessly is said something to the effect that Buddy was one of the first or the first artist to write his own songs. On the contrary he was one of a number of his contemporaries that wrote al of their own songs.
Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Bo Diddley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison to name a few.
Of Buddy’s 8 charred top 40 hits in the US, half of them were written by others. Oh Boy!, Rave On, Early In The Morning, it doesn’t matter anymore.

As for the Beatles it is almost always stated that they were the first to write their own songs. Take the examples above and add The Beach Boys, Del Shannon, Smokie Robinson, and you get my point.
This is not a slam on either the Beatles or Buddy as I am a huge fan of both but find it lazy and biased for writers, journalists to keep stating this to new readers or fans.
Just a thought.
