Hi Dale,

I've been in bands myself, although never with a frontman. The attitude is more or less "all for one, and one for all" when it comes to this sort of thing - you're all in it together for better or worse. A good frontman knows that he/she is screwed without a band to back him/her. Buddy knew his sidemen needed a decent rest, as they'd been on stage for the whole gig, every night of the tour. Tommy and Waylon were probably the most battle-weary of the whole ensemble, sickness and frostbite notwithstanding.

Buddy being the consummate professional he was, would have been acutely aware that there probably wouldn't be a show without Tommy and Waylon. Tommy was arguably the best guitarist on the tour, and he also needed to be there to keep Waylon playing the right notes, as Waylon couldn't play the bass. Buddy needed Tommy especially to hold everything together on stage. Then of course there is Buddy's loyalty to Waylon and Tommy as his friends...

Interestingly, I was watching the extended preview for "The Winter Dance Party Tapes" that Jim and Sevan were releasing onto Youtube. Frankie Sardo pretty much sums it up as far as Dion's story is concerned.
