G'day Aaron,

No, there is no big secret. Like you, the crash has held some intrigue to me. It's not the nicest thing to be curious about, but there you go. Like most people, I'd like there to be some explanation as to what caused the plane to come down within five minutes of take off. I'm not looking to blame anyone, I just want to understand what caused the crash that killed my childhood hero (who was 30 years dead when I 'discovered' him).

Ryan and Kevin's book goes a long way into giving an explanation as to what could have happened. I know Kevin has been researching the crash for years, and is something of an expert, pretty much in the same vein as Bill Griggs was about Buddy Holly. You seem really interested in the crash, so I thought I'd recommend it to you. Despite the subject, it is a thoroughly enjoyable read. I will also recommend Larry Lehmur's book "The Day The Music Died" as well. It's also a good read, but doesn't have the detail of Ryan and Kevin's book.

There you go, mystery solved - there is none.

All the best mate.
