Buddy Holly with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – True Love Ways
I recently bought this CD and I’ve played it several times on my old hi-fi system. I played the CD on a Cambridge Audio CD player, through a Cyrus amplifier and Cyrus book-shelf speakers; all connecting cables are good quality. I didn’t buy an MP3 download, or whatever the modern substitute for a CD is. I haven’t played it on a radio/ CD desk-top unit, or anything similar; I haven’t listened to it through headphones, or are they called earphones these days? The sound quality coming through those speakers from this CD filled my living room and amazed me, it was just so good! Has anyone else out there been as surprised as I was to hear Buddy’s voice sounding so warm, clean, fresh and bright? Is anyone else out there as bowled over as I am by the last track? Buddy didn’t know it of course, but I think with that song he wrote the perfect piece for an orchestral backing. There are some songs on the CD that should have been left alone, but I think the majority work, and work very well with Buddy’s voice clearly out in front.
