'The lyrics were written by Norman Petty, despite the commonly held myth that Holly wrote it for his wife (who perpetuates the story).'

I would be interested to know your source for this, Lachlan.

In his book 'Not Fade Away: The Life and Music of Buddy Holly', John Gribbin says this:

'There is considerable doubt over how much Petty contributed to [True Love Ways] which Buddy wrote for Maria Elena - the melody is based on one of his favourite gospel songs, 'I'll Be Alright'...and the words are definitely all Buddy's'.

Who is right?
