 No one knows the serial numbers of Buddy’s stolen Stratocasters. On occasion, Bill stated that he had (undisclosed) serial number information relating to the lost guitars, but he took that position for the sole purpose of deterring fakers. Because the band’s instruments were insured, there is a very remote possibility that serial number information is buried in a warehouse that contains 60-year old insurance underwriting files, but there is no practical way to attempt a search at this time. One or more of Buddy’s lost Stratocasters (or parts of those guitars) may be out there “somewhere,” but absent very convincing evidence linking a guitar to the original thief (extremely unlikely), there would be no way to identify them.
