 Buddy gave a COPY of the 6 apartment tape songs to his recording manager Dick Jacobs at their lunch meeting on 19th January
just near the Coral offices..

Jack Hanson worked for Dick Jacobs.
Hanson was Jacobs' arranger and A&R man and it was Hanson who wrote the arrangements and hired the musicians etc.

So the copy Hanson worked with was 2nd or 3rd generation hence the poor quality of these overdubs we all bought back then.

The master copy therefore stayed in the apartment and I recall Peggy Sue saying that she went back to the apartment with Maria shortly after Buddy's death (this was probably when the Crickets were in New York to discuss who The Crickets actually were) and Maria played Peggy Sue the tape of Peggy Sue Got Married. Clearly they were still friends at this point.

I've no idea what happened ot the original tape after that.

Did it end up with Norman Petty a couple of years later ?
Did it end up with Coral at some point and hence was destroyed in the fire ?

If anybody can add to this please do so.
